Juanita Fernández

Conceptual and sound artist, performer, composer and producer of contemporary art.

 

Degree in Musical Interpretation with specialization in percussion at the University School of Music Institute of the Faculty of Arts of the University of the Republic.

 

He has participated in Latin Americans premieres of contemporary music repertoire of international level, sharing the scene with composers such as Steve Reich, in the premieres of Music for 18 Musicians, Tehilim, Drumming, Latin American premiere of Timber by Michael Gordon, as well as a wide repertoire of music from the second half of SXX. 

 

Composer and producer of Pájaros, music inspired by the whistles uruguayan birds phonogram.

 

Composer of sound installation «Al-Térico» based on the Teros (a native bird). This installation opens at the Espacio de Artes Contemporáneo in Montevideo in 2018 and has a replica in 2019 at L Marbrerie, cultural center of Motreoix, Paris.

 

Works in collaboration with the composers Sofía Scheps (Uy) and Carolina Carrizo (Ag), generating repertoire of scenic devices within the Sound Arts, Video Art, performance and sound installations.

 

Professor in charge since 2015 of the chair Design of the Theatrical Sound Space at the Multidisciplinary School of Dramatic Arts EMAD. Composer of 2 Crosses, sound podcast about the work of Joseph Beuys. Beuys Radio, Goethe Institute. Germany.
